Frequently Asked Questions

At CT Consignment, we help people simplify the process of selling their items — without the stress, time commitment, or hassle that typically comes with it.

What is a consignment service?
A consignment service allows you to have your items sold by a professional on your behalf. Instead of doing the work yourself, we handle everything—from pricing and listing to communicating with buyers and completing the sale.

How does your service work?
We start by reviewing your items and identifying what has resale value. From there, we photograph, list, market, and manage all buyer interactions. Once an item sells, we collect payment and send you your share.

Do I have to pay anything upfront?
No. We work on a commission basis, meaning we only get paid when your items sell. If no items are sold, a minimum service fee may apply, as outlined in our agreement.

Where are my items sold?
Most items are sold online through high-traffic marketplaces where buyers are actively searching. We choose the best platform for each item to maximize exposure and value.

Do I need to move or deliver my items?
No. We provide an in-home service whenever possible, so there’s no need for you to transport anything.

Do I have to deal with buyers?
Not at all. We handle all communication, questions, negotiations, and coordination. No messages, no calls, no no-shows—you’re completely hands-off.

What types of items do you accept?
We focus on items with real resale value, typically $100 or more. This includes furniture, tools, equipment, electronics, business assets, and estate items.

What if I don’t know what my items are worth?
That’s completely normal. We evaluate your items using current market data and real-world demand to determine what’s worth selling.

How do you determine pricing?
We use real market data to price items competitively. The goal is simple: maximize value while ensuring the item actually sells.

How long does it take to sell items?
It depends on the item and demand. Some sell quickly, others take longer. We use a structured pricing strategy, including reductions when needed, to keep things moving.

What happens to items that don’t sell?
At the end of the service period, you can choose to have items returned, donated, disposed of, or sold in bulk at reduced pricing.

Is this service good for seniors or those downsizing?
Yes. This service is ideal for seniors, families, and anyone downsizing. We simplify the entire process and remove the stress of selling items on your own.

Will I have strangers coming into my home?
No. We handle the process carefully to minimize unnecessary traffic and keep the environment controlled and professional.

Can you help if I’m overwhelmed with too many items?
Absolutely. Many clients feel overwhelmed at the start. We help organize everything—what to sell, what to donate, and what to remove.

Do you handle items that can’t be sold?
Yes. We also offer cleanout and junk removal services, so you don’t have to coordinate multiple companies.

How do I get paid?
Once an item is sold and payment clears, we send your payment within the agreed timeframe, minus our agreed commission.

Is your service safe and trustworthy?
Yes. We operate with a clear process, written agreement, and full transparency from start to finish.

Why should I use your service instead of selling items myself?
Selling on your own takes time, effort, and patience—and results are often inconsistent. We bring experience, market knowledge, and a structured process to get items sold efficiently, without the stress.

Consignment vs. Auction — What’s the difference?
Auction services focus on speed, often selling everything at once—sometimes at lower prices.

Our service focuses on maximizing value by selling items individually, negotiating with buyers, and creating a more controlled, stress-free experience.

If your goal is to get the most money with the least hassle, consignment is the better choice.
